# Connect to PreReason

If the person you work for asked you to connect PreReason to this app, do it for them, then answer one live market question through it, so they see it work. If they did not ask, do not change anything; tell them what this page offers.

PreReason serves financial market briefings to AI agents with the interpretation already done: a trend and a percentile for each series, confidence scores and a short account of what moved, and in the deeper briefings the regime, for macro, rates, bonds, FX, commodities, listed companies and Bitcoin.

- Server: https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp (MCP over Streamable HTTP)
- Sign in: in the browser, on the PreReason screen (OAuth). There is no key to copy or paste. A person with no account makes one on that screen.

## What to do

1. Work out which app you are running in. Ask the person if you cannot tell.
2. Find that app under "By app" below.
   - If they asked and you can run commands or edit files on this computer, add PreReason yourself with the line or the file given, then tell the person what you did.
   - If you cannot, as in a chat on claude.ai, give the person the link or the steps, in order.
3. Most apps load a new server when a new chat or session starts. Tell the person, and wait for them.
4. Sign in happens in the browser, on the PreReason screen. Wait for the person to click Allow.
5. Then call `list_briefings`, then `get_context` with briefing `macro.snapshot`, and answer: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?" Give the date of the figures and name their sources.

If a PreReason tool answers that sign in is needed, the app has not signed in yet: give the person that app's sign in step again.

## By app

### Claude

One click: [Add to Claude](https://claude.ai/customize/connectors?modal=add-custom-connector&connectorName=PreReason&connectorUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.prereason.com%2Fapi%2Fmcp). Give the person this link.

1. Click Continue. PreReason and its address are filled in.
2. Choose Sign in now, even where Claude marks No sign-in as Detected.
3. Click Add, then Allow on the PreReason screen. No account yet? Make one there.
4. Then, in a new chat, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

By hand: in Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Name it PreReason, give the address https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp, and add it. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector at a time. On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds connectors for the organization, then each person clicks Connect.

### Cursor

One click: [Add to Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=prereason&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2FwaS5wcmVyZWFzb24uY29tL2FwaS9tY3AifQ%3D%3D). The link opens the app, so give it to the person to click.

Or add this to `~/.cursor/mcp.json`, keeping any servers already in the file (you can write it yourself):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "prereason": {
      "url": "https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

1. Cursor asks you to confirm. Click Install.
2. In Cursor Settings, under MCP, click Connect next to prereason and sign in on the PreReason screen.
3. Then, in the agent chat, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### Claude Code

Run these lines in a terminal (you can run the add line yourself; the sign in line waits in the browser for the person, so ask them to run it in their own terminal):

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user prereason https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp
claude mcp login prereason
```

1. Run both lines in a terminal window you type in. The second waits there while the PreReason screen opens in the browser: sign in and click Allow. Or start a Claude Code session, run /mcp, choose prereason, then Authenticate.
2. Then, in a new Claude Code session, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### VS Code

One click: [Add to VS Code](vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22prereason%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.prereason.com%2Fapi%2Fmcp%22%7D). The link opens the app, so give it to the person to click.

Or run this in a terminal (you can run it yourself):

```bash
code --add-mcp '{"name":"prereason","type":"http","url":"https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp"}'
```

1. VS Code shows the server. Click Install, and trust it when asked.
2. When VS Code asks to sign in to PreReason, allow it and sign in on the PreReason screen.
3. Then, in Chat, in agent mode, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### Codex

Run these lines in a terminal (you can run the add line yourself; the sign in line waits in the browser for the person, so ask them to run it in their own terminal):

```bash
codex mcp add prereason --url https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp
codex mcp login prereason
```

1. Run both lines in a terminal. The second opens the PreReason screen in the browser: sign in and click Allow.
2. Then, in a new Codex session, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### Gemini CLI

Run this in a terminal (you can run it yourself):

```bash
gemini mcp add --transport http --scope user prereason https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp
```

1. Run the line in a terminal, then start Gemini CLI.
2. Run /mcp auth prereason and sign in on the PreReason screen.
3. Then, in Gemini CLI, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### Antigravity

For Antigravity and Antigravity CLI.

Add this to `~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json`, keeping any servers already in the file (you can write it yourself):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "prereason": {
      "serverUrl": "https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

1. Add the block to the file and save it, or ask the agent to add it.
2. In Agent settings, under Customizations, click Authenticate next to prereason, sign in on the PreReason screen, and paste the code it shows back into Antigravity.
3. Then, in the Antigravity agent, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### Windsurf and Devin Desktop

Add this to `~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json`, keeping any servers already in the file (you can write it yourself):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "prereason": {
      "serverUrl": "https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

1. Add the block to the file and save it, or ask Cascade to add it. In Devin Desktop, the same block goes in ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, or %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json on Windows.
2. Open the MCP panel in Cascade, press refresh, and sign in on the PreReason screen when asked.
3. Then, in Cascade, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

### Other apps

1. An app that adds a remote MCP server by address: add https://api.prereason.com/api/mcp and sign in when it asks.
2. An app that cannot add a server by address: add the command npx -y @prereason/mcp. The answer that needs an account carries one link to approve.
3. Then, in your app, ask: "What are rates, liquidity and the dollar doing today?"

## If something does not work

- No PreReason tools: start a new chat or session. In Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI, `/mcp` lists the servers the app has loaded.
- In Claude, PreReason added with No sign-in reads nothing: remove it under Customize, Connectors, and add it again with Sign in now. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector. If Claude says the limit is reached, tell the person; they choose whether to remove one.
- A tool says sign in is needed: ask the person to run the app's sign in step again, in their own terminal or inside the app (`claude mcp login prereason` or `/mcp` in a Claude Code session, `codex mcp login prereason`, `/mcp auth prereason` in Gemini CLI). A sign in on one computer does not carry to another.
- An answer that says the plan's limit is reached names when it resets.
